By Yvonne Darling What's better than buying a raffle ticket for a charitable cause? Perhaps, it's knowing that in doing so you'll place yourself in the running to win a brand-new, custom made Bourget motorcycle.
After working closely with the Phoenix-based manufacturer, the Marco Island Fire-Rescue Foundation in Florida scored the bike, which will be raffled off on Veteran's Day, Nov. 11.
“The bike’s 'flag' custom paint job clearly sets it apart and there is no better day than Veteran’s Day to close the sale of tickets and have the drawing,” Howard Montgomery Jr., one of the foundation's directors, told Bourgetmotorcyclemonthly.com. Montgomery said that Bourget has a history of working alongside charitable organizations to assist them with their fund raising efforts. The Marco Island fire-rescue squad is well-known in the area for its members' dedication. The department responded to over 2,500 local emergency calls in 2005, in addition to assisting in Mississippi in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. That same year, the squad dealt with Hurricane Wilma, the third hurricane of the Atlantic 2005 season to reach category 5 status, according to the National Climactic Data Center.
The newly created Marco Island Fire-Rescue Foundation serves as a semi-“safety net” for squad members by providing financial assistance to those members in need. Tickets for the raffle are being sold for $75 a pop. Montgomery is hoping that whoever is lucky enough to score the bike takes good care of it. A trailer and straps will be provided to the winner “to be certain the bike’s new owner will enjoy the bike for many years to come,” he said. Photos Courtesy: Marco Island Fire-Rescue
